For many many years, Macbook owners were led to believe that their computers were basically immune from malware infections. Most of the time Macbooks are recommended so people because their resistance to malware is quite high. But the truth is Macs were never immune from “catching” malware at all. The malware developers chose to concentrate their efforts on wider range of Windows PCs but now unfortunately that’s not the case.

Many large computer security research firms are reporting that Mac malware infections are now increasing and on a “percentage basis” could even pass the number of Windows infections in the not so distant future.

Mysterious malware has infected nearly 40,000 Mac devices, according to the cybersecurity firm Red Canary, which first detected the threat. The malware was named "Silver Sparrow," is a very confusing malware attack because its yet to cause any malicious act.

He added that the malware has been dubbed mysterious for two reasons, including that it lacks an ultimate payload (In computing, a payload is the carrying capacity of a packet or other transmission data unit) and researchers cannot determine the purpose of the threat.

When you really think about it it’s easy to understand why this is happening now. Many believed that MacBooks were completely immune this false sense of security led to most Macs never having anti-malware software installed on them, therefore when a malware attack inevitably comes those unprotected machines become infected almost by default.
